Pick of the Patch: Your 2026 Pumpkin Patch Guide Near HillCreste at Thousand Oaks

|

Fall has officially arrived in San Antonio, and nothing says October like a trip to the pumpkin patch. Whether you're looking for the perfect jack-o'-lantern, a few gourds for your patio, or a fun family photo, there are great options just a short drive from HillCreste at Thousand Oaks. Here are some of our favorites, starting closest to home.

Up Highway 281: Bulverde Pumpkin Patch

For a classic farm experience, head north on 281 to Bulverde Pumpkin Patch. It's open every day in October, from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The patch has a unique admission setup. Instead of charging per person, it charges a $30 membership per vehicle, no matter how many people are inside, and that membership covers visits for the rest of October. Pumpkins and vendor purchases are extra. Activities include games, photo spots, a hayride, a hay bale maze, and a monster truck school bus ride that kids love.

Tip: Rain can make the ranch too muddy for visitors, so check for weather closures before you head out.

Free Fall Fun: Universal City Pumpkin Patch

Looking for something budget-friendly? The Universal City Pumpkin Patch runs October 2 through October 30 with free admission and free parking. It's located behind the Universal City Fire Department and is supported by more than 27 nonprofit organizations.

Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Leashed, well-behaved pets are welcome, so bring your four-legged family members too.

A 20-Year Tradition: Bracken Church

Bracken Church has hosted its pumpkin patch since 2002, and it's grown to include hayrides, educational experiences, and kids' activities. The patch is open October 9 through October 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Admission is free.

Close to Shopping: Alamo Heights UMC

Planning a shopping trip to the Quarry? Stop by the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church pumpkin patch, which opens October 10 and runs through Halloween. Admission is free, and it's a perfect spot for seasonal family photos.

Make a Day of It Downtown or in New Braunfels

Tower of the Americas. The Tower of the Americas brings its free Fall Pumpkin Patch downtown from October 5 through November 15. Pair it with a visit to Hemisfair or the River Walk.

First UMC New Braunfels. For a quick road trip, the First United Methodist Church New Braunfels pumpkin patch is a longstanding fall tradition, open through Halloween. Since the patch depends on volunteers, check hours before you go.

Bonus scares. If you're looking for something spookier, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is hosting Haunted Hayrides at its fairgrounds October 22 through 24.

Before You Go

Fall in South Texas can still bring heat, rain, and mud. Check each patch's website or social media before you leave, wear comfortable shoes, and bring water and sunscreen. Popular pumpkins sell out as Halloween approaches, so go early in the month for the best selection.
